6 Energy Money Saving Tips

Being energy efficient not only helps with the environment but it also can help you loads of money! There are many things we can do to offset the unnecessary prices we pay. Here are six great tips:

    1. A/C and Heating System– Set your A/C to 78ºF or the max comfortable temperature. Clean and replace the filters monthly to increase efficiency. When you’re not home for a while, put the temperature up a couple degrees. Use ceiling fans to circulate the cool air.
    2. Interior Design- Depending on the age of your home or the quality of work done, the insulation may not be efficient to keep the cold/hot air in so replacing it will keep the cost of keeping the rooms warm or cool, depending on the time of the year, down. Keep your windows and blinds closed during the day and open at night.
    3. Avoid using heat-generating appliances such your dryer, dishwasher, and oven during the day. When using the dishwasher, let it air-dry overnight. Use a toaster oven, if applicable, instead of the conventional oven. Dry your clothes in the morning or the night.
    4. Energy Efficient Roofing– A traditional asphalt roof soaks up the sun and radiates it through the house, but with new innovative material there are energy efficient roofs available to save money on your A/C bills.
    5. Reduce Electricity and Water Use– If you have a pool, reduce the number of hours the pool is filtered throughout the day. Unplug unused electronics or use a power strip to easier control. Set the water heater to 120ºF. Have barrels to collect the rain to water your garden or wash your car! That’s free water!
    6. Solar Panels or Geothermal System- Both have high upfront costs but in the long run, the benefits you receive will pay for it.
